SAFETY RECALL NOTICE – Aluminum Utility Trailers Owners

It has been determined select aluminum utility models have a component recall. Please check below to verify if your model and VIN number are affected.

This notice is in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Important

  •  Your trailer manufactured by H&H Trailers®, LLC is being recalled.
  •  You should cease any use of your trailer until the repair work can be performed.
  • You should take your unloaded trailer (do not place any items in the trailer) to your nearest H&H Trailers® authorized dealer so that the gate hinges on your trailer can be replaced. A list of authorized dealers is available by clicking on Find A Dealer.

Why is a recall being conducted? H&H Trailers® has identified a potential safety defect related to the gate hinges on the following trailers manufactured between November 2014 and October 15, 2015: GCA Golf Car Trailer, AMS Bike Trailer, RSA Rail Side Single Axle Utility Trailers, RSA Rail Side Tandem Axle Utility Trailers, SSA Solid Side Single Axle Utility Trailers, and SSA Solid Side Tandem Axle Utility Trailers. H&H Trailers®, LLC has learned that the gate hinge on the back of the trailer can bend or break. If the gate hinge breaks, the trailer gate can fall, potentially causing personal injury or property damage to the items being transported or other items. Additionally, if the gate hinge breaks during transport, the trailer gate could cause a crash.

What are we doing about the problem? H&H Trailers® is offering a repair program free of charge to its customers. H&H Trailers® is sending a hinge repair kit to its dealers beginning on or around February 1, 2016. Customers may contact a H&H Trailers® dealer to have the new hinges installed on the trailer at no charge to the customer. It is currently estimated that the repair should take less than two hours. If a customer has already incurred repair costs for gate hinges, upon notifying H&H Trailers® of the costs associated with such repairs and after providing receipts for the repair work, H & H Trailers will reimburse those customers.

What should you do? You should immediately stop using your trailer until your hinges have been repaired. Even if your hinges are not bent or have not broken, you should take your trailer to an authorized H&H Trailers® dealer so the new trailer hinges can be properly installed. If you have already incurred repair costs for gate hinges, you should send a letter to H&H Trailers®, along with copies of any receipts, notifying H&H Trailers® of the costs you incurred. Your letter can be sent to H&H Trailers® at the following address: 222 N. 1st Street, Clarinda, IA 51632.

What if you no longer own this trailer? If you no longer own this trailer, but have the contact information for the new owner of the trailer, please forward the new owner’s contact information to H&H Trailers® so that proper notification can be sent. Notification can be sent to H&H Trailers® at the following address: 1400 E. Washington Street, Clarinda, IA 51632.

Who should you contact if you have further questions or concerns? If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact H&H Trailers®, at the following number: (712)542-2618 Or email at warranty@hhtrailer.com.

If you have already paid to have your trailer gate hinge repaired for this condition, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges you paid for the repair. As noted above, if you have already paid to have your trailer gate hinges repaired, please send a letter to H&H Trailers® identifying the following information: 1) the date you purchased your trailer; 2) your trailer’s VIN number; 3) the date your hinges were repaired; 4) the name of the entity or person repairing the hinges; and 5) the amount you paid out of pocket to have the hinges repaired. You must include a copy of your receipt in order to receive reimbursement for your expenses.

If, after having attempted to take advantage of this recall, you believe you have not been able to have your trailer gate hinge remedied without charge and within a reasonable amount of time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington D.C., 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

We apologize for any inconvenience this safety recall may cause, but your safety is our first concern.

Sincerely,

H&H Trailers®, LLC
